Rockets Crash Out Against Heat: Offensive Woes and Ejection Drama

The Houston Rockets suffered a tough 104-100 loss to the Miami Heat, marking their second consecutive defeat at Toyota Center. This game was marred by offensive struggles and a chaotic ending that saw seven ejections, including players and coaches from both teams.

The most dramatic moment came when Amen Thompson threw Tyler Herro to the floor, sparking a bench-clearing altercation. While the fight will dominate headlines, the real story of this game was the Rockets continued offensive struggles.

Houston’s offense completely dried up in the fourth quarter. After Fred VanVleet’s bucket made it 92-85 with 8:10 left, the Rockets didn’t score again until the 2:47 mark. During that crucial stretch, they managed just one field goal in over five minutes of play. This offensive drought has been a recurring theme for the Rockets this season, and it’s costing them games.

The Rockets defensive effort kept them in the game, allowing only eight points during their offensive lull. However, their inability to generate points when it mattered most proved to be their undoing.

Offensive Woes Run Deep

The Rockets offensive issues are multifaceted. Head coach Ime Udoka needs to implement better offensive principles, as there were several possessions where players stood around waiting for something to happen. The team’s shooting woes are also a major concern, with only Dillon Brooks shooting above league average from three-point range.

However, the most glaring issue is the inconsistent guard play from both Fred VanVleet and Jalen Green. VanVleet is having a down year by his standards, while Green has yet to live up to the expectations of a player who just received a $106 million contract extension.

The Rockets need Green to step up and become the star guard they envisioned when they drafted him. Until he can consistently perform at a high level, especially against good defensive teams, the Rockets will continue to struggle offensively.
