Garland and Mobley: The Cavs’ Dynamic Duo Poised for All-Star Recognition

The Cleveland Cavaliers are riding high this season, and two of our young stars are on the cusp of earning well-deserved All-Star nods. As the reserves are set to be announced, I’m confident that both Darius Garland and Evan Mobley will hear their names called.

Garland, in particular, has been nothing short of spectacular. His mastery of Kenny Atkinson’s offensive system has been impressive, especially considering how different it is from anything he’s done before. The way he’s navigated not just his own season but contributed to the team’s success is remarkable.

What stands out about Garland’s game this year is his efficiency. Shooting nearly 50% from the floor for a guard his size is no small feat. His impact on the team’s offensive rating is staggering - when Garland is on the floor, the Cavs boast an offensive rating of 125.2, which is elite by any standard.

Defensively, Garland has made significant strides. Earlier this season, Atkinson made it clear they wouldn’t be hiding him anymore. Instead, they’re challenging him to be an integral part of their defensive schemes. While he may not be a lockdown defender, his effort and overall production on that end have noticeably improved.

Evan Mobley: The Rising Star

Turning to Evan Mobley, I believe he’s a lock for his first All-Star selection. His defensive prowess is well-established - he’s arguably one of the top three defensive players in the NBA. But it’s his offensive growth that’s truly exciting.

Mobley’s aggression on offense has increased significantly. He’s attempting more field goals per 36 minutes than ever before, and his three-point shooting has become a real weapon. What impresses me most is his confidence in creating his own shots, whether it’s off the dribble or pulling up from distance.
