Pacers Show Promise with Back-to-Back Double-Digit Wins

The Indiana Pacers have finally achieved consecutive double-digit wins this season, a milestone that’s been long overdue. While it’s tempting to dismiss these victories as they came against struggling teams like the Pelicans and the Sixers, it’s important to note that the Pacers have previously lost to both these teams this year. This recent success raises an intriguing question: Are the Pacers truly inconsistent, just bad, or is there more to their performance than meets the eye?

Looking at the numbers, the Pacers currently rank 14th in the NBA for offensive rating, averaging about 1.14 points per possession. What’s particularly interesting is that in games where their offensive rating exceeds 120, they boast an impressive 7-1 record. Conversely, in games where their offensive rating dips below 110, they’re 0-9. This stark contrast highlights the team’s potential when firing on all cylinders offensively. They have been all over the place.

Individual Progress Shines Through

Despite the team’s overall inconsistency, several players have shown significant individual progress. Tyrese Haliburton is starting to resemble his old self, while Obi Toppin has markedly improved in December. Andrew Nembhard has also contributed two solid games in a row, bolstering the starting five’s potency.

The recent practice time and break in the schedule seem to have benefited the team. It’s provided an opportunity to integrate Thomas Bryant and potentially streamline some offensive strategies. However, the true test lies ahead with a challenging Western road trip and a brutal end-of-month schedule.

Myles Turner’s Performance Under Scrutiny

Myles Turner’s performance this season has been a topic of discussion among fans and analysts alike. While his three-point shooting remains solid at 41.1%, other aspects of his game have seen a decline. His turnover rate has increased significantly, and his two-point field goal percentage is at its lowest since the Oladipo era.

Despite these challenges, Turner’s fit with the team and his screen partnership with Haliburton remain valuable assets. As the season progresses, it will be crucial for Turner to address these issues and regain his form from the past two seasons.
