With Jaden McDaniels in foul trouble, it was somewhat surprising not to see more of Josh Minott, who could have injected some much-needed energy and rebounding in the game.
Despite the disappointing performance, there were still some positives. The Timberwolves managed to stay within striking distance late in the game, even as Anthony Davis was the best player on the court by far. Davis was a force on both ends, showcasing his scoring ability and defensive prowess.
The Timberwolves’ opening night performance should serve as a wake-up call. The lack of effort and execution must be addressed if they hope to compete in a tough Western Conference. Thursday night’s game against the Sacramento Kings presents an opportunity for redemption, and it will be interesting to see how the team responds.
