In a high-scoring affair at Chase Center, the Golden State Warriors tied a franchise record with 27 three-pointers but still fell to the Dallas Mavericks 143-133. It was a night of offensive fireworks, with both teams combining for an NBA record 48 three-pointers.
Despite the offensive heroics, Golden State couldn’t overcome the Mavericks’ blistering start. Dallas jumped out to a 19-point lead early, going 9-for-9 from the floor to open the game. Luka Doncic was unstoppable, pouring in 41 points by the third quarter on his way to 45 for the night.
The Dubs offense finally came alive after recent struggles, but the usually stout defense had no answers. The Warriors shot 47% from the field and an impressive 50% (27-of-54) from three-point range. Andrew Wiggins led the way with 29 points, while Steph Curry added 26 and Jonathan Kuminga chipped in 20.
Draymond Green had a rare offensive outburst, hitting five three-pointers en route to 21 points. Typically, when Draymond connects on multiple threes, it spells victory for us. Not on this night.
The difference came down to the Mavericks’ efficiency. They shot a scorching 60% from the field and 51% from three. Former Warrior Klay Thompson torched the Warriors for 29 points on 9-of-14 shooting in his best game as a Maverick.
While the loss stings, there were positives to take away. The offense finally showed signs of life after ranking 27th over the past nine games. The addition of Dennis Schroder, acquired via trade, should provide another scoring punch and playmaking ability.
The next test comes Thursday against the Memphis Grizzlies. It will be Schroder’s Warriors debut, and we’re hopeful his presence can help get Golden State back on track as we fight to climb the standings in the competitive West.
