Last night’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies was an absolute disaster for the Golden State Warriors. As a longtime Warriors observer, I can confidently say this was the worst loss of the Steph Curry era. The final score of 144-93 doesn’t even do justice to how lopsided and lifeless this performance was.
From the opening tip, it was clear the Warriors weren’t mentally prepared to compete. They committed a foul before the game even started, with Kevon Looney fouling on the jump ball. Things only went downhill from there. By the end of the first quarter, the Warriors were already down 37-15. There was no fight, no spark, no sign of life from a team that looked to be a championship contender early in the season.
The most shocking stat of the night was Steph Curry’s line: 2 points on 0-7 shooting in 19 minutes. This was the first time in Curry’s entire career that he played more than 10 minutes without making a single field goal. For the greatest shooter of all time to put up a goose egg is almost unfathomable.
But Curry wasn’t alone in his struggles. Draymond Green managed to post zeros across the board - 0 points, 0 rebounds, 0 assists - while racking up 4 turnovers and a -42 plus/minus in just 19 minutes. The entire starting lineup was a disaster, aside from Andrew Wiggins.
This loss drops the Warriors to 14-12 on the season after starting 10-2. They’ve now lost 3 straight and 8 of their last 10. The schedule doesn’t get any easier either, with tough matchups against Minnesota, Indiana, and the Lakers coming up.
The Warriors desperately need to find some answers quickly. Whether it’s lineup changes, schematic adjustments, or just rediscovering their competitive fire, something has to change. Nights like this simply can’t happen for a team with championship aspirations.
As painful as it is to say, this felt like more than just a bad night. It felt like a potential inflection point for this Warriors core. If they can’t bounce back and start stringing together wins soon, some difficult conversations may need to happen about the future direction of the franchise.
For now, all we can do is hope this serves as a wake-up call. The Warriors have overcome adversity before. But make no mistake - this was as bad as it gets. Where they go from here will define their season.
