As we approach the NBA trade deadline, it’s crucial to identify potential buy-low candidates in fantasy basketball. Today, we’ll explore five players who are currently underperforming but have the potential to significantly improve their production in the coming weeks.

Karl-Anthony Towns: A Shooting Slump or Injury Concern?

Karl-Anthony Towns has been a fantasy revelation this season, but his recent performance has raised some eyebrows. Over the last two weeks, Towns has averaged just 41 fantasy points, ranking 52nd overall. His three-point shooting has plummeted to 21%, well below his career average of around 40%. This drastic decline could be attributed to a thumb injury he suffered recently.

While Towns’ struggles are concerning, there’s reason to believe he’ll bounce back. His track record as an elite shooter suggests this slump is likely temporary. However, it’s worth monitoring his status for the All-Star game, as he may opt to rest if the thumb issue persists.

Stephen Curry’s recent performance has been underwhelming, averaging just 31 fantasy points over the past two weeks and ranking 77th overall. His three-point shooting has dipped to 30%, which is uncharacteristically low for the greatest shooter of all time.

While there are concerns about Curry’s age (he’s nearly 37) and potential decline, it’s hard to imagine his shooting woes continuing. His usage rate has decreased, which could be a sign of load management. However, even a slight improvement in his shooting percentages could vault him back into the top 50 players.

Alperen Sengun: Adjusting to a New Role

Alperen Sengun has cooled off after a strong start to the season. His minutes have dropped slightly, and the Rockets have altered their offensive approach. Over the last two weeks, Sengun ranks 83rd overall, averaging under 38 fantasy points per game.

Despite the recent dip, there’s potential for improvement. Sengun’s block and steal numbers are down, but these defensive stats tend to fluctuate. A small uptick in these categories could easily push him back into the top 50.
