Timberwolves Dominate Magic: Edwards Shines in Third Straight Win

The Minnesota Timberwolves secured their third consecutive victory, defeating the Orlando Magic 104-89 on Thursday night.

Despite facing a shorthanded Magic team that was missing key players including Paolo Banchero, Minnesota native Jalen Suggs, and the Wagner brothers, the Timberwolves’ performance was impressive. They dominated from the start, never allowing the game to be in doubt. The final score doesn’t fully reflect the Wolves’ control, as they led by 20-plus for much of the fourth quarter prior to garbage time.

What stood out most in this one was the Timberwolves’ defensive prowess — they flipped the script, effectively neutralized Orlando’s typically strong turnover-forcing game. Minnesota only committed eight turnovers while forcing 16 from the Magic. This defensive intensity, reminiscent of last season’s Wolves, set the tone early and maintained throughout the game.

Anthony Edwards led the charge with a stellar start, knocking down three quick three-pointers in the first quarter. Although his shooting cooled off, finishing 5-of-19 from the field, Edwards’ impact was undeniable. As the game wore on, he passed out of Magic
traps to the tune of seven assists and ultimately still scored, too, ending with 21 points.

After opening things up with his long-range shooting and willingness to set up his teammates, he began attacking the basket, culminating in nine free throw attempts — and his latest Dunk of the Year, posterizing the Magic’s Anthony Black.

Other Timberwolves Came to the Party, Too

The game also highlighted the benefits of the Wolves’ recent starting lineup change that saw Donte DiVincenzo take Mike Conley’s place three games ago. This adjustment has opened up more opportunities for Edwards, allowing him to attempt more three-pointers and continue create space for his teammates, most notably Julius Randle. Randle posted a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. His efficiency and physicality were key factors in the Wolves’ offensive success.

The Timberwolves’ victory over the Magic demonstrates their potential when executing their game plan effectively. If they can maintain this level of play, particularly on the defensive end, they could re-solidify their position as a top contender in the Western Conference.
