The Wizards lost to the defending champs on opening night but we could see glimpses of things to come.

The Wizards lost to the defending champion Boston Celtics 122-102 in the first game of what is going to be a long season for the young Wiz-Kids. They fought hard in the 1st half, but the 2nd half was more indicative of what Wizards fans should come to expect. This season, and probably the next two, will not be judged on wins and losses but on the development and progression of young players such as Bilal Coulibaly, Alex Sarr, and Bub Carrington, and let’s not forget sharpshooter Kyshawn George. In honor of one of the best movies ever, let’s look at the good, the bad, and the ugly from last night’s game.

The Good
Jordan Poole is coming into this season with a chip on his shoulder and for good reason. After an up-and-down first season in the nation’s cap, he responded by dropping 26 points while shooting 9-17 from the field, including 6-11 from three. On defense, one of the main areas where people have criticized him, he had four steals and one block. We know that when JP13 is cooking with oil, he does it at a high level but now we need one thing, consistency. If we see that, I smell Most Improved Player votes.

The Bad
The young core had their bumps and bruises and it was bad, but it’s supposed to be. There are no expectations for these young guys and they have the chance to just go out there and play. Last night showed that Bilal worked his butt off in the offseason and that Carrington, Sarr, and George are very raw but have the potential to be part of the core of this team for years to come. Good things come to those who wait. Patience is required.

The Ugly
After an offseason where he went back and forth with fans over his political views and look, I have no problem with players being active in politics but actions have reactions. At media day, he expressed that he was coming into this season with renewed focus, it has remained to be seen after an unimpressive Pre-Season. Showing signs of disinterest and playing into shape, last night was far from what the Fan base expects from the number one scoring option. 12 points from 6-16 shooting is not going to cut it. More is expected or he may have another uniform come the Trade Deadline.
