Jonas Valanciunas continues to show he has plenty of gas left in the tank, and other teams are watching.

When Jonas Valanciunas arrived in DC on a very team-friendly contract, the Wizards were hoping that he would not only help with the team’s rebounding woes but also be a veteran mentor to Alex Sarr. However, all parties understood that he was probably not going to play his contract out in the nation’s cap. He has not disappointed. He has been highly productive whether he starts or comes off the bench. The Wizards don’t have to rush to move him but if they want to go younger and get assets in return for most of their veteran players, it behooves them to do so. I’ve got a couple of deals that I think would make sense for the Wizards.

Trade #1 - The Lakers

Wizards receive: Gabe Vincent and two 2025 2nd round picks or 2026 1st round pick
Lakers receive: Jonas Valanciunas

The Wizards can acquire more draft capital in the form of 1st or 2nd round picks and a veteran Point Guard in Vincent that you could hold on to or flip in another deal. This deal is dependent on Malcolm Brogdon being traded though. I’d love Jalen Hood-Schifino in return but you would have to make the salaries match and Vincent makes more sense money-wise. Now, if the Wizards were to find a 3rd team, Hood-Schifino could happen.

Trade #2 - Knicks

Wizards receive: Mitchell Robinson and the protections removed from their 2025 1st round pick
Knicks receive: Jonas Valanciunas

The Wizards acquire a young Center in Robinson who like Vincent in the Lakers move, could stay on the roster or be flipped in another deal. The important part of this trade is getting the protections finally lifted from the Wizards 2025 1st round pick.

Both deals have their merits. Both Vincent and Robinson have contracts that wouldn’t handcuff the team long-term and come with draft capital. Which move do you like?
