It’s time. It’s time to hand the keys to the franchise to Jordan Poole and trade Kyle Kuzma.

Yes, the Wizards lost to the San Antonio Spurs last night 139-130 and fell to a record of 2-8, but two things were evident for the Wizards fanbase last night: It’s time to give the franchise to Jordan Poole and trade Kyle Kuzma. First, let’s chop it up about JP13.

Coming over from the Golden State Warriors, many expected him to take the next step and some even compared his situation to James Hardens when he first arrived in Houston. He had a roller coaster ride in the first half of last season but then it clicked for Jordan Poole. Thriving not only in the 6th man role but when Tyus Jones went down with a back injury, he stepped up and led the 2nd best transition team in the NBA. After putting in the work in the offseason and being the best version of himself off the court in DC, with renewed focus, he has been producing at an All-Star level while averaging 22 points per game and has proven that he wants to be the “guy” in the nation’s cap. Just like that awkward conversation we’ll have with our parents at some point, it’s time to hand over the keys. Next, let’s talk about Kuz.

While Kyle Kuzma has developed into a complete player and leader in DC, on and off the court, it’s time to consider trading Kyle Kuzma. When he came back last season on a very team-friendly contract, the expectations were that he was going to be eventually moved at some point. He is well-liked by the team and has been vocal about wanting to be part of the rebuild in DC but the fact remains, it’s time. Bilal Coulibaly has emerged as a high-ceiling three and D wing who will be part of the next Wizards Championship team. Kuz unfortunately will not be. His bad body language and the poor start to the season make you wonder why the team didn’t trade him to Dallas at last season’s trade deadline or to Sacramento during this year’s draft. The asking price of two 1st Round picks may not be met but he is definitely on the trade block. Bilal has shown that he is ready to step up but only time will tell If he is given the opportunity.
