Last night, the Golden State Warriors put on an impressive display, defeating the Chicago Bulls 131-106. But the real story wasn’t just the final score - it was the incredible performance from our bench players.
Our second unit exploded for a staggering 83 points, led by breakout performances from Quinten Post and Gui Santos. Post had a career-high 20 points, knocking down five three-pointers. Meanwhile, Santos brought tremendous energy and also set a new personal best with 19 points.
As impressive as the scoring was, what stood out to me was how comfortable and confident these young players looked running our system. Post in particular seems to have benefited greatly from his time in the G League, where he’s been able to get consistent minutes and reps running Warriors sets. His passing and decision-making looked much improved from earlier in the season.
The emergence of Post as a potential stretch five is especially intriguing. We’ve been lacking that type of floor-spacing big man for years now. While it’s still very early, his shooting touch and 7-foot frame could be a game-changer for our offense if he can sustain this level of play.
I was also encouraged by what I saw from Moses Moody, who continued his strong recent play with another double-digit scoring night. That’s now five straight games in double figures for Moody. When given consistent minutes, he’s showing why we were so high on him coming out of the draft.
Of course, we can’t get too carried away after one good game against a struggling Bulls team. But there were some very positive signs here, especially from our young players. Moving forward, I’d love to see Coach Kerr continue giving extended run to guys like Post, Santos, and Moody. We need to find out what we really have in these players.
Up next, we’ve got a big Saturday night matchup against the Lakers at Chase Center. It will be another great test for our young guys going up against LeBron, AD, and company. I’m excited to see if they can build on this performance and continue to grow.
