Devin Booker’s absence from the 2024 NBA All-Star roster has sparked a heated debate among Phoenix Suns fans. The Western Conference reserves were announced, and Booker’s name was noticeably missing from the list. This marks a significant shift for the Suns’ star guard, who has been a regular fixture in the All-Star game in recent years.

The Western Conference reserves include Anthony Edwards and James Harden as guards, with Anthony Davis, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Victor Wembanyama in the frontcourt. Alperen Sengun and Jalen Williams secured the wild card spots. Kevin Durant, as expected, made the cut as a starter.

Booker’s stats for the season - 26 points, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds per game - are impressive, but a slight dip in his shooting percentages may have played a role in the coaches’ decision. His true shooting percentage of 58% is just above average, compared to the 60%+ he’s maintained in recent years.

The Suns’ overall performance this season might have also factored into Booker’s omission. With the team hovering just above .500, it’s possible that coaches viewed team success as a crucial factor in their voting.

Interestingly, Booker ranks seventh in the entire NBA in offensive EPM (Estimated Plus-Minus), ahead of players like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Donovan Mitchell, and Joel Embiid. This statistic highlights Booker’s significant impact on the Suns’ offense when he’s on the court.

In other news, the Suns are reportedly exploring trade options for Jusuf Nurkic. The Atlanta Hawks have emerged as a potential trade partner, with Larry Nance Jr. being mentioned as a possible return. Nance, a 6'8" versatile forward, could provide the Suns with a different look in their frontcourt rotation.

While Nance isn’t a game-changing acquisition, his ability to play both forward positions and occasionally as a small-ball center could add flexibility to the Suns’ lineup. His improved three-point shooting and playmaking skills could fit well within the Suns’ offensive system.
